National Exams Are Here: What Kenya’s October–November 2026 Season Means for Schools

A record 3.6 million candidates are registered for KPSEA, KJSEA and KCSE. Here is the calendar head teachers need on their desks this week.

Kenya’s 2026 national examination and assessment season is underway.

According to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and the Ministry of Education’s season launch, about 3.63 million candidates are registered across KPSEA, KJSEA and KCSE — the largest cohort yet. KCSE alone has crossed one million candidates for the first time.

Key dates schools should lock in:

- Friday 16 October 2026: KCSE rehearsal day
- Monday 19 October – Friday 30 October: KCSE papers with lower candidature
- Monday 2 November – Friday 20 November: KCSE papers with large candidature
- Friday 23 October: KPSEA and KJSEA rehearsal
- Monday 26 October – Friday 30 October: KPSEA and KJSEA written assessments

For school leaders, the operational question is not only the timetable. It is whether centre managers, invigilators, transport for materials, boarding routines, and parent communication are ready before the first paper.

KNEC has also emphasised tougher integrity measures for this season, including clearer collection windows for examination materials. Secondary centres should treat morning and afternoon collection times as non-negotiable.

If your school hosts candidates, print one shared calendar for staff rooms and the gate. Confusion on start times is still one of the most common preventable exam-week problems.
